Assam to Bhutan 2 (By Road)

Duration: 10 Nights / 11 Days
Destination: Gangtok - Siliguri - Pheuntsholing - Thimphu - Punakha - Paro - Pheuntsholing - Darjeeling - Gangtok

Day 01: ARRIVE GANGTOK

Welcome on arrival at Gangtok airport and transfer to hotel. Evening is for leisure (NO Sightseeing possible) Overnight at hotel.

 

Day 02: GANGTOK

Early morning start for a half day trip to Tsomgo lake (12400ft), which is only 32kms from Gangtok City, the lake is almost about 1Km long, oval in shape and 15 mtrs deep. The lake is considered sacred by the local people, further 12Kms is Baba Mandir dedicated to the memory of soldier Harbhajan Singh. Evening free for individual activity and leisure, overnight at hotel.

 

Day 03: DARJEELING - SILIGURI – PHUENTSHOLING 

Transfer to Phuentsholing (225 kms / 7.5 hrs) via Siliguri. Phuentsholing is a border town in southern Bhutan and is the administrative seat of Chukha District. The town occupies parts of both Phuentsholing Gewog and Sampheling Gewog. Stay overnight in Phuentsholing.

 

Day 04: PHUENTSHOLING – THIMPHU (165 Kms / 4.5 hrs).  

Morning transfer to Thimphu. After processing permit you will drive to Kharbandi Gumba & Crocodile & Drive through spectacular mountain views and peaceful countryside to Thimphu Bhutan & overnight stay in Thimphu.

 

Day 05: THIMPHU LOCAL SIGHTSEEING

After breakfast proceed to make permit of Dochula, Punakha for next  morning and go for  local site seeing   tour of Thimphu including visit   BBS Tower AKA Sangaygang, which is located North West of the Thimphu Valley is the popular spot or famous for the dating and taking a walk around the blue pines, it's around miles drive from the Thimphu valley, SAARC Building (From Out Side View) is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is situated in the western central part of Bhutan and the surrounding valley is one of Bhutan's dzongkhags, the Thimphu District, Libuarary,  Handicraft Emporium, Memorial Chorthen, Buddha Point, Folk Heritage Museum located in Kawajangsa, in the heart of the capital city, Thimphu.The Folk Heritage Museum is within the walking distance of the National Library of Bhutan and the National Institute for zorig choesum (13 Traditional Arts) & Motithang Takin Zoo located in the Motithang district of Thimphu. The takin is an animal with significant religious connotation in Bhutan, as a mythological tale dating back to the 15th century relates how a Tibetan saint with the epithet ‘The Divine Madman’ created this species with the head of a goat and the body of a cow, found only on the hills of Bhutan. Overnight stay in Thimphu.

 

Day 06: THIMPHU – PUNAKHA (90 Kms / 03 hrs)

After breakfast visit to Dochula pass (3080m) that heralds the most enchanting views of Bhutan. Later drive to Punakha and Wangdue visit PUNAKHA DZONG a remarkable fortress and Simtokha Dzong which now serves as a Buddhist University built strategically at the junction of POH CHU & MO CHU River in 1963. Overnight at hotel in Punakha. (B, L, D)

Day 07: PUNAKHA - PARO (LOCAL SIGHTSEEING)

After breakfast travel to In the morning drive to Paro (145kms / 4hrs) and enjoy sightseeing around the Paro valley and visit Ta Dzong which houses the National Museum, the ruins of Drugyel Dzong, Rindpung Dzong, and the courtyard of 7th century old Kichu Lhakhang, International Airport, Museum and Taksang View. Stay two nights at hotel.

 

Day 08: EXCURSION TRIP TO CHELE LA PASS

After breakfast drive to Chele la (pass) at an elevation 13000 ft asl is considered to be one of the highest motorable passes in Bhutan. About an hour's drive from Paro as it passes through lush valleys, pine and rhododendron forest. The pass provides stunning views of the sacred mountain Jomolhari and Jichu Drake local site seeing and drive back to Paro and overnight stay at hotel in Paro.

 

Day 09: PARO – PHUENTSHOLING - DARJEELING

Morning Transfer from Bhutan to Darjeeling. Later if time permit can cover Darjeeling half day local Best points sightseeing covering Padmaja N. Zoological Garden (Closed on Thursday), Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Closed on Thursday), Tibetan Refugee Self-help Center (Closed on Sunday), Ropeway (entry fees not included), walk around visit to the Mall and Local Market (Closed on Thursday). Evening Free for shopping & individual activity. Overnight at hotel

 

Day 10: DARJEELING  - GANGTOK

Early morning start for Tiger Hill to watch the spectacular sunrise and it’s amazing effects on the Mt. Kanchendzonga (World’s 3rd highest peak), Visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop War. After breakfast enjoy the Joy Ride return to hotel. Later transfer to Bagdogra.

 

Day 11: BAGDOGRA DEPARTURE

After breakfast transfer to Bagdogra airport.
